Mary Sue grew up in Iowa in a family that loved to sing and to dance. Her mom saved green stamps to buy her a little black Kay guitar when she was 12 years old. Since that time she has become one of the leading “pure” singers in the traditional music scene. Perhaps best known for her work in the roots band Iowa Rose, Mary Sue has also performed with the eclectic trio The Pets, the country band Sister Wilene and currently with Roger Brown in the Americana duo Drive South.
Mary Sue Wilkinson is also the founder of Singing Heart to HeartTM, devoted to bringing the joy of music and singing to seniors with decades of life experiences and memories tied to music. With her flagship program, Young at Heart Music, Mary Sue leads hundreds of senior sing alongs each year. In 2014 she released “Songs You Know By Heart” featuring 18 well known songs to sing along with. Her soon to be released book “Songs You Know By Heart: A Simple Guide for Using Music in Dementia Care” is a companion to the CD and includes contributions from national dementia care specialist Teepa Snow.
