Jim Hall & Cindy Morgan

Jim Hall & Cindy Morgan have been playing music together since 1997, and released their first CD in 2003. Their performances emphasize tight vocal harmonies, strong lyrics and solid instrumental touches. Their music is Americana with contemporary influences (folk, bluegrass, blues, gospel, old-time, traditional). Both are self-taught musicians, whose earliest harmony experiences were singing in churches with strong vocal music traditions. Cindy & Jim live in an 1860's-era farmhouse with their two dogs, four cats, and 43 instruments (at last count), including guitars, mandolins, piano, concertina, fiddles, harmonicas, kazoos, whistles, chicken shake eggs...the list is endless.

Their Cd, "The Real Deal," has 15 traditional and contemporary songs, perfect for singing along with (especially for adding a third harmony). It is available in the Lansing area, at their gigs, or through the mail, and it will be on sale at the festival. You can contact Hall & Morgan at cam83@cornell.edu, or call them at (517) 663-1788.

Workshop

The Big Old Goofy World of John Prine / 2:40 - 3:40 pm

Description:  John Prine is one of the most prolific and relvant songwriters of our generation.  One of the first of many to be dubbed "the new Dylan" in the early 1970's, he has outgrown that label to remain a presence in music into the 21st century.  His lyrics can be sad, funny, pognant, personal, or political--but always thoughtful--while his music is steeped in the traditional sounds of bluegrass and country music.  In this workshop, we'll sing some of his familiar songs such as "Paradise" and "Angel from Montgomery," and explore some of his more recent tunes, like "Big Old Goofy World."
