To those who love to sing:
WOW! What a Singing Festival!
Thanks for adding your vocal and financial support to a very fun weekend!
The energy was high, all weekend long, starting with Richard Rodgers, Hedy West, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini, Paul McCartney, and well-known spirituals on Friday night, and ending with Malvina Reynolds, Leonard Bernstein and Peter Yarrow on Saturday night.
Wonderful songs; wonderful sound.
The late Mike Seeger and Mary Travers were remembered each evening, and their spirit seemed to join the singers in the hall.
The afternoon workshops were energetic and well done! Thanks to all who made the trek to Greater Lansing to help lead us in song.
Financially, the Singing Festival is healthy. Attendance was down only about 10%, which is far better than most ticketed arts programming in this area, and in the nation. And, we cut back on a few expenses, so the numbers matched up pretty well.
Your evening ticket and wristband purchases matter! YOU are the sole sponsor of the Mid-Winter Singing Festival. Your dollars make the Singing Festival happen.
Thank you.
Now, it's your turn to help mold the next Mid-Winter Singing Festival, Feb. 4-5, 2011.
Please drop us a note with your thoughts. Song leaders, ticketing, times, programming, structure...all topics are fair game. (Please make sure to present your ideas in a thoughtful and positive manner.)
Each note will be read, and then printed and added to a notebook that includes feedback from all eight Singing Festivals. As the ninth Singing Festival is planned, all notes are then re-read and all ideas are once again re-considered.
Your note does not have to be long and involved. Short notes with just one or two ideas are great, too. What do you think?
Please send your note to: info@singingfestival.com within a couple of weeks. (Some song leaders are booked well in advance and if we want them to visit the Singing Festival, we need to get on it pretty quickly.)
Thank you for all of your support!
Without you, there is no sound.
Sincerely,
Sally Potter

Mama Bear's Cafe
We are very pleased that Mama Bear's Cafe, one of Lansing's best fresh food restaurants, will be offering soups, sandwiches, treats, drinks, and coffee! at Hannah from 10:30 am - 3 pm on Saturday, Feb. 6.
Grab a cup of coffee before the 11 am Children;s concert. Have a fabulous lunch with a friend in the 1st floor cafe. Grab a cookie and drink before singing with Susan Werner and the Festival Choir.
If you spend all Saturday afternoon at Hannah, you won't go hungry!
Thanks to Mama Bear's for bringing their delicious food to Hannah for the Singing Festival.
Mama Bear's food on site is just one more reason to spend the weekend singing - just to sing!
See you at the Festival!
Tickets Still Available!
To those who love to sing:
There are plenty of tickets available for the Mid-winter Singing Festival. Really!
The Hannah Auditorium is a big place. We are doing this singing thing for two nights, so that makes for many available tickets. Contrary to public rumor, there are many tickets left - for both nights.
Tickets are available on line at www.tenpoundfiddle.org and at the door - starting at 6:30 pm Friday and 11 am Saturday.
What IS different this year is that there are no advanced sales of Singing Festival tickets at Elderly Instruments, Archives Bookshop or ELFCO.
The Ten Pound Fiddle Concert Series, the lone producer of the Singing Festival, has focused all of its advanced ticket energy to selling them (only) on line because, frankly, that's where 90% of their advanced ticket sales were taking place.
(The numbers of advanced ticket sales they were selling at each of the three outlets had slowed down to a crawl, so the Fiddle decided to save volunteer resources (paperwork, pick-up/drop off, etc...) and sign on with a reputable, very easy-to-use, and very inexpensive (as these services go) on line ticket service. The Fiddle has used Brown Paper Tickets (via www.tenpoundfiddle.org) for five months and has been very pleased with both their customer service and accuracy.)
(While some may not like the extra fee for this on line service, the Fiddle chose to keep the fee with the on line ticket buyer - to keep Fiddle concert expenses as low as possible, therefore to keep published concert ticket prices as low as possible, so as to give as much of the gate to the performers as possible. So far, so good.)
(If you have read this far!) yet because many folks who attend the Singing Festival are not yet used to on line ticket purchasing (it is easy!), there is one more way singers can reserve tickets for Friday and/or Saturday night.
Until 7 pm Thursday night, Feb. 4 (the last time this email address will be read), you can email me at info@singingfestival.com and reserve tickets for one or both evening sings. Tell me how many tickets - for what night(s) - and what name to put on your envelope of tickets. You must pick these tickets up and pay for them at the ticket sales table (not the Will Call table) not less than 30 min. before the show (until 7:30 Friday, 6:30 Saturday)
Now, using any one of these three ways, getting Singing Festival tickets for the evening sings is easy!
I hope this has helped to clear up any ticket questions you may have had.
Thanks for your support!
See you at the Singing Festival!
